1. Conference Dates
* When will UNEP TICYC be held?
: UNEP TICYC will be held on 17-23 August 2009.
2. Application
* How can I participate in UNEP TICYC?
: The official application for UNEP TICYC has closed at the moment. However, you can still participate in the conference virtually via related websites. Please, keep your eyes on our news bulletin, and don’t miss an opportunity to act together with 1,000 UNEP TICYC participants!
* How do I know whether or now I am selected as a participant?
:
The participant selection process will be completed by the end of May at the latest. The selected participant will be informed individually.
* How many participants will participate in UNEP TICYC?
:
Total 1,000 children and youth will participant in UNEP TICYC.
3. Visa
* How do we get a visa to Korea?
:
When all participants are selected, the organizers will send out a letter of invitation along with all the information you need to apply for a visa.
4. Venues
* Where will UNEP TICYC be held?
:
UNEP TICYC will be held in Deajeon, Korea.
* Where is the conference venue?
:
The main conference venue of UNEP TICYC is Daejeon Convention Center (DCC). Several side events will be held in Chunam University where accommodation is provided.
* Where is the accommodation?
:
The accommodation for UNEP TICYC participants is BTL dormitory of Chungnam Univ.
* How far is the conference venue from accommodation?
:
It takes 15 min. from DCC to BTL dormitory by bus. There will be transportation between DCC and BTL dormitory.
* Is there an internet connection at the conference?
:
At the conference hall, you will be able to use wireless internet. You can also access to internet with a wire at the dormitory. A limited number of public computers with internet connection will be provided both at the conference venue and the dormitory.
* What are the rooms like?
:
A room will be shared with other participants. It is equipped with a bed, desk and shared bathroom. When the selection of participants is completed, the organizers will set up a room plan according to group sizes, gender etc.
5. Programs
* What are the programs?
:
The organizers are preparing for the program at the moment. A definite program will be informed no later than the end of June.
* Will all participants present their projects on stage?
:
No. It is impossible to have all the participants present their projects. A certain number of representative projects chosen by UNEP and Junior Board or TUNZA Youth Advisory council will be presented at plenary sessions.
* Will there be an exhibition?
:
Yes, there will. Every delegation can bring a poster about their work which will be placed in a designated exhibition area.
* What is an action group?
:
When the delegates are selected, they will be divided into groups which will meet everyday during the conference. There are 15 to 20 children in each group, and they will discuss the theme of the day, learn about each other's countries and their environmental challenges, and have games and fun to get to know each other.
* What kind of workshops will be there?
:
There will be numerous workshops reflecting either one of four daily themes or the main theme, Climate Change. A lot of professionals and people from environmental organizations will share their time and knowledge with the participants.
* Can workshops be run by chaperones?
:
Yes, they can. If a chaperone is interested in running a workshop, please email us with brief description of desired workshop via ticc2009@gmail.com. Please note that we cannot guarantee that this workshop will be chosen to be operated. The organizers don’t provide any financial reward for running a workshop.
* Where do the fieldtrips go?
:
There are a number of interesting sites for fieldtrips in the Daejeon area: unique nature scene, interesting technological sites, museums etc. All the places will be within 1 hour's trip, from the university.
* Is there a separate programme for chaperones?
: The chaperones will be able to attend plenary sessions along with the children. While the participants are in workshops or on fieldtrips, there will be separate programs for the chaperones. But they will also have some free time so that they can have a cup of coffee and mingle with other chaperones.
6. Meals
* What kinds of food will we have?
:
During the conference, various types of food which contains all the necessary nutrition will be provided. Special menu for vegetarians and muslims will be also prepared.
7. Miscellaneous
* I am a Muslim. I want to observe Ramadan which is overlapped with the UNEP TICYC period. What can I do?
: During the Ramadan period, there will be a special arrangement for Muslim participants. Special food will be prepared before the sun rises and after the sun goes down. There will be also a prayer room prepared both in the conference venue and accommodation.
